What is Apitherapy?
Apitherapy is a treatment with bee products such as honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom in Turkey. Apitherapy is originally bee venom treatment practised in Eastern countries such as China, Korea and Japan and it is also commonly known as “bee venom therapy” in English.
Bee venom contains pharmacologically a large number of active substances. Melittin and apamin in bee venom are the strongest anti-inflammatory agents. These active substances are especially indicated in the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
Nowadays, apitherapy and especially bee venom therapy are practised in Korea, China, Russia and European countries.
Apitherapy has been recognized officially as a complementary medicine by the Ministry of Health, Turkey in 2014.

- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
- Chronic Pain Syndrome (CPS)
- Menstrual Cramps (Dysmenorrhea)
- Myalgia (Muscle Pain)
- Neuralgia
- MS (Multiple Sclerosis)
- Parkinson’s Disease (PD)
Some Conditions to be Aware of When Practising Apitherapy:
- Allergy to bee sting
- Bee venom should not be practiced to children under the age of 18 years old.
- Pregnancy
- Insulin-dependent diabetes
- Liver cirrhosis
- Use of beta blockers (epinephrine)
- Kidney failure (glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, albuminuria)
- Serious psychiatric illness (psychoses, anxiety)
- Honey should not be given to children under the age of 12 months old.
Notice: Bee venom allergy test is absolutely necessary before any bee venom therapy.
